Art Director by Day

I knew when I started my position as an Art Director at Meredith, I had finally scored my “dream job”. It took several years and various other roles but it all let me to this path of art directing. I quickly came to discover that not a lot of people understood exactly what I was doing on a daily basis. I had been a graphic designer, stylist and even photographer but this role is where my true passions come together.

As a lifelong artist, I always think I want to do my own thing. I want it to be MY IDEA (and honestly that is why I have this blog) but when really creative people get together it’s amazing what the outcome is. I collaborate daily with some seriously talented people, who I now call friends, and I’m always super proud of our end results.

I wanted to do a quick roundup (and brief summary) of my favorite images that I have art directed this past year in the studio for Do It Yourself Magazine by Better Homes & Gardens.

  1. My role in these images is to ensure our brand is visually being upheld at all times. I make sure the project concept is what our readers want to see visually, is on trend, and has a color palette that I see working for the entire story and issue.

  2. The day of the shoot I direct style edits, camera angles, prop moves and lighting and we collaboratively work as a team to make sure everything we shoot is beautiful yet accessible projects for our readers.

  3. I absolutely love photo shoots and making our projects come to life. It takes months of planning, brainstorming, researching trends and collaborating but the end result is always stunning.
